Believe me, I know firsthand just how true that is. But I fear you may be taken advantage of if you forget that inmates are here to improve. Simply bandaging trauma may solve things for some, but I've seen inmates stagnate and languish because they make no change.

Those who do not recognize the hurt they have caused others and have some desire to right it may never graduate, and if they see themselves as stuck here, well. Who better to take it out on than their warden?

[He shakes his head gently, sighs.]

I don't mean to lecture. I've simply been on both sides of it. Been on a ship full of people who took years to graduate, or never managed and were sent home to die. You seem sweet. Tempering your expectations might preserve your optimism, I think.
