FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME

FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME

Welcome to the Return Journey's first plotting meme!

In plotting memes, we share what we're doing next, our dream storylines, and any gentle workshopping on tricky subjects or character choices — essentially a CR Meme with an optional smidge of How's My Driving.

These memes are not mandatory, but they are highly encouraged because it's a place to plan CR and communicate your character arc in a way that can get others involved with yours. They're meant to be low pressure and high yield. When in doubt, ask questions!

Every month, we offer a few different prompts or character-building questions. These are entirely optional; you can absolutely just fill in the base form if you want.

Monthly Prompts

This month we're asking questions themed around consequences.

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others?

What consequences does your character need to grow? Consequences are crucial to telling a character arc for both inmates and wardens. Without them, there can't be stakes or tension, and without stakes or tension, there's no impetus to grow. What's a kick in the teeth your character needs? What are they robbing themselves of when they try to avoid these consequences?

How do consequences affect your character externally and internally? How do they react? What kinds of consequences are intolerable or tolerable, necessary or unnecessary?

    silco

    [personal profile] kaijuice 2022-02-25 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)

    Character: Silco
    Canon: Arcane
    Status: Inmate
    Info:

Silco is observant, often prickly, and focused on the long-term. He's currently disinterested in redemption, and unimpressed by people who want to do better. He's certain that he's done his best.

At home, Silco is a gangster with revolutionary ambitions, and 1.5 that people he cares about to an excessive degree. Everyone else? Expendable. He's here to work on trust, empathy, and whatever a "healthy boundary" is.

    He can offer -

  • Manipulation (successful or not)
  • Info-digging, tell him about your life :))
  • Pulling the dick move in a plot
  • Parental introspection
  • Someone to lose a physical fight

  • Plotting:

I've been running behind this month, and I'm mostly focused on catching up on that. Please let me know if you'd like a starter, and always feel free to swing into my inbox for a thread / scene. I'll hit yours too!!

He does have a few small balls in the air -

  • William and Viktor are aware he's been busting all the robots. Silco only knows that Viktor does, though.
  • Paired with Grace for the month, and has made his goal getting her to commit out loud to what she will or won't do ethically.
  • Trying to work out how exactly a gun is "unique" to a Warden, and how one might get around that.

  • Goals:

I'd like to (read - need to actually plan / thread) have him work on establishing himself as a source for materials or information in game, whether or not he actually succeeds at that. Buddy should be trying to make himself useful to others and I've been slacking.

I've been focusing on deepening CR before he makes an escape attempt, but that's likely in the next few months as well, if that's something you'd like to get in on.

HE IS HERE to better himself though, and I'd like that to happen incidentally along the way!

    To start that -

  • His daughter killed him, and he's been carrying on like none of that happened / has not confronted dying since the first week here.
  • He's touched :,) by loyalty :,,)) particularly under circumstances like these where no one owes him anything. Even small gestures towards that are a good in to deeper CR.
  • BOY HE REALLY HATES COPS, and has yet to blow up about it here. Would love to change that.
  • There's another guy here from his hometown, who didn't adapt by murdering children, so "did you actually have to do that" conversations seem inevitable, even if the reaction rn will be "uh yeah" and unfurling a scroll of Reasons.

  • Etc:
  • He's a jerk, I don't take him at all seriously OOC & neither should you. Please feel free to reach out if there's ever an issue, I'm always happy to edit a tag or chat something out.

    Character: Rhys "Danger" Strongfork
    Canon: Borderlands
    Status: Inmate
Info: Rhys fuckin sucks. He's still deep in exuding that slimy, super corporate attitude and will either be schmoozy with you or an absolute dick depending on his first impressions of your character. Easy to get along with when you're on his good side, a pain in the ass when you're not. Rhys is always looking for advantages, and will stick closer to characters who have something worthwhile to offer him (even if that's just his desperate need for company.)

Plotting: Since arriving Rhys has gotten his nose broken, gotten into multiple public fights (that didn't result in more broken face bones, but only because of warden interference ((thanks claire)) ) and committed grand theft auto with some warden assault on the side which he was put into solitary for for a week.

He currently only has ONE SHIRT which he is pretty annoyed about, and has lost various privileges.

Goals: I'd like to work on deeper CR for Rhys, especially because at some point I think it would be interesting to learn about his "past self" in the setting (aka: TLV's OG Rhys) who some of the characters knew. He's going to have an existential crisis about this and I'd like him to have someone to confide in when he does.

Other than that: He hasn't faced a lot of (any, really) the shit that went down shortly before he came here. Handsome Jack, the space station crash that was 90% his fault, the former friends who died or he lost contact with in the fallout of that, and how Fiona wasn't wrong to leave him in the dust. I want these things to come to light slowly and organically but I'd like him to have to start dealing with some of it beyond the front he puts up currently.

And longterm: I play Rhys at his absolute worst, but that doesn't cancel out the route where he's at his canonical best (he can still be a cutthroat asshole, but he's kinder, more empathetic and wants to work alongside others.) Those traits are still in him, somewhere, but his crueler and more callus traits have become the ones that are dominant. The plan is to eck those traits out until they're his prominent ones.

    Etc: Monthly prompts!

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others?

What Rhys desires most in life is success, and the way he's gone about conceptualizing this is in the form of being a Business Man (he has dialog where he talks about how when he was a kid he made tiny business cards to hand out, cringe.) Failing this isn't an option for him, because it will mean all he's been through (and all those around him that have been effected by his decisions) wasn't worth the cost, and I think he'd genuinely have a breakdown if it came to this.

It would be cool if he could learn that success is beyond his current idea of it, though.

I think he needs to get to a place with people where he's dropped most of his pretenses, become vulnerable, and then screwed it up for himself. I think he needs to feel loss and not turn to spite as the recourse in order to move forward because while he's survived by using this method, he's ultimately ended up alone.

"It's lonely at the top" is how he's rationalized it, but he actually really needs and desires connection with others (beyond them being like, his little corporate posse where betrayal is just a matter of time) he's just shit at it because friends aren't his end game.

Rhys is the kind of guy to go into a situation saying "I'm not here to make friends" and then be hurt when he has no friends.

that i definitely missed were in here WHOOPS

    Desires -

Silco most desires independence for his country, and the continued safety of his daughter. These things are, at the moment, intrinsically at odds - but they both stem from a need for control and belonging.

Giving up on one meant that he ended up failing at both, and also there's a war now. Oops. He's still reckoning with this. At the moment, by ignoring that it happened.

    Consequences -

Silco thinks he's a hard-case (lol), and is likely to respond to material consequence as a challenge to be overcome. But methods like that are ultimately self-isolating, both for personal development, and in limiting his ability to get anything done. Funny how people don't want to ally themselves with treacherous assholes.

He's more alone here than he's ever been, and the inability to just fill that with another struggle will be likely helpful in turning that struggle inward. Workaholics gotta occasionally reflect on why they're soul-crushingly lonely and have lost everything they value.

At some point he's going to end up in solitary, expect to handle it like a champ, and have some real issues.

    alice

    [personal profile] helenite 2022-02-25 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)

    Character: Alice Quinn
    Canon: The Magicians (Book version)
    Status: Warden
    Info:

Alice is a huge nerd who's prone to nerves, likes hands-on work, and cares about her friends just a bit too much. She's very committed to her windfall, but not at all sure about the Admiralty's methods.

At home, she's a professional wizard and aimless twenty-something, who pulled the spell equivalent of a grenade on herself to save her friends. She's here to make sure that it actually worked - and to practice using her convictions, instead of just excusing them.

    She can offer -

  • Baseline friendly CR
  • A nihilist worldview
  • Ill-advised experiments
  • Very ill-advised coverups
  • Someone to win a physical fight

  • Plotting:

I've been running behind this month, and I'm mostly focused on catching up on that. Please let me know if you'd like a starter, and always feel free to swing into my inbox for a thread / scene. I'll hit yours too!!

She does have a few small balls in the air -

  • Unpaired for the month, and staying the dorms with William to keep an eye on things.
  • Volunteering for absolutely everything.
  • Also, she blew up the Destroy-It when I get around to TAGGING THAT THREAD. Sorry.

  • Goals:

I'm working on deepening Alice's CR at the moment, particularly with inmates; who she feels a deal of sympathy for. So far it seems like her best friends could've ended up here!! Clearly that doesn't bear closer examination!!

If there's a plot you'd like to do down the line that involves Warden negligence or bad decisions, she's a definite option.

Personal development I'd like to happen include -

  • She's not dead at home! She's just been telling people that she is, and trying to consider herself dead, because what actually happened is arguably worse. This has potential to touch on some suicidal ideation discussion, so I won't touch on it unless I know you're cool with it OOC.
  • Sort of fucked up about the whole thing, and about killing basically a child in the process. It's simultaneously making her more and less sympathetic to murderer CR rn, and they're who's she most likely to speak about it with.
  • Alice has issues with avoiding conflict, and letting people get away with things for longer than they probably should. When this blows up, it tends to be big and abrupt. She should. Work on not doing that.
  • Her ex recently told her to take more risks, despite the fact that she takes like, a ton already. And should probably take fewer, because she's been breaking things on the Peregrine as a result.

  • Etc:
Please feel free to reach out if there's ever an issue, I'm always happy to edit a tag or chat something out.

    desires -

Alice's windfall will secure the safety of her friends. She wants this for its own sake - but also, to close a chapter on that life. It's crucial that she has not included going back with them.

For better and worse, she's relying on these external events to make the hard decision for her: She needs to move on and let go of people in order for both she and they to grow. At some level, Alice knows this, and has known it for the better part of a year. She just hasn't been able to handle ripping off the band-aid.

Alice is terrified to her core of doing too little for the people she loves. She needs to learn at more than a conscious, brush-off level, that protecting people from themselves does everyone a disservice.

    consequences -

Alice is an angry person, and she doesn't handle strong feelings well. Nor does anyone in her canon ever call her out on this! Being a bit passive about conflict has meant that people tend to excuse the times she does blow up.

I would really like this to not be the case in TRJ, and for it to have actual ripple effects on her relationships with others. Making yourself intentionally frightening to someone is a pretty fucked up thing to do, and she needs to learn the ways that it will sour her CR. Social consequences will always hit her harder than material ones.

I know their CR so far is minimal but I really like the chemistry Rhys and Alice have and would love to expand on that!

    Charm points:
-Rhys is also a huge nerd once you crack that outer, polished layer
-Also accidentally a murderer whoops! a chance to be vulnerable at some point wrt this? I think even though he can be a shit and minimize/act above other peoples crimes here, if he had Attachment to a person he’d be nicer.

    Contact: leitmotif @ plurk
Notes: erratic tagger, sometimes i boomerang and other times i perish. i suck at plurk bc i fell out of the habit and never got back in the groove, but it's good for pinging me. contents are mostly rp chatter, birds, my hot fandom of the moment, and occasional rl bs.

    Character: aki hayakawa
    Canon: chainsaw man
    Status: warden
Info: resident devil hunter and spoiler warning; blunt, overly serious, tired, and possessing zero self-preservation. he's spent the last 4 years slowly killing himself with devil contracts and has kind of forgotten how to use his face. from au 1997 japan so who knows if he'll know what you're talking about. extremely good at seeming like a reasonable, practical guy on the surface when he is...not. it's a little too easy to guilt him into stupid shenanigans, even if he (thinks he) doesn't like you.

Plotting: just been tagging out, tho the last event fell during a bad time for me so lol. i usually just roll with shit as it happens, so most plans are long term goals (see below). may eventually do smth with him looking into a prosthetic (he's kind of written off the idea for now for reasons). also future devil, bc while aki has done some eerily prescient shit around people, he doesn't...explain it. in any case, i'm always happy w inbox shenanigans or writing starters.
Goals: mostly getting him more involved and deepening current/building new cr. on the more spoilery end, actually dealing with his death and the circumstances surrounding it, bc he's been skating by on the fact he can't clearly remember getting brainwashed, killed, possessed by a devil, and then killed again by his little brother denji. he'll admit he's dead, but talking about it in detail will probably make him panic. also maybe one day he will confess the bullshit with his extremely truncated lifespan is a problem, but that's kind of a pipe dream. as it is, he's accepted that he's dead and has no intention of trying to change that for fucked up reasons.

side note that he gets attached to people very easily and expresses it in small gestures (or...absurdly selfless ones), but it might take a while to notice since his surface persona is pretty cold. and the easiest ways to crack that are by pissing him off or dying lol.

Etc: aki only has the brain cell bc denji and power flat out refuse to use it

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be?
aki obv wants his windfall, bc maybe he can at least save power (his lil sister figure). his motivations are ultimately personal, though the fallout has a lot of potential for the greater good and aki does care about that; it may even be good for some of his bullshit wrt helplessness and how to cope with that helplessness, because it's genuinely ruined his fucking life. naturally, that's all off the table if he fails, but bc it's personal, he's much more dogged about pursuing his goals and it's much harder to make him change course.

What consequences does your character need to grow?
lol, he's kind of already going through this by not being actualfax dead. aki does not know what to do with himself without a goal that consumes his entire life; he's pretty much decided he'd rather do something that kills him instead of feeling terrifyingly adrift, bc he doesn't know how else to deal with survivor's guilt. something something the difference between living and surviving.

How do consequences affect your character externally and internally?
he's willing to accept pretty much any personal consequences, including death (it's part of how he's remained in his line of work for so long, when most people don't make it through their first year), but he cannot deal with other people dying. he's had 2 buddies go through the wringer trying to save him; he's still not over the first one and the second one only doesn't weigh on him overmuch bc he doesn't remember what happened. the big problem is these consequences make aki more determined to figure out ways to protect the people he cares about, with absolutely no consideration for the price he personally pays, bc sometimes you have to make sacrifices and the cheapest thing he has of value is himself. which, obviously, this is...really bad.

    Character: Malekith the Accursed
    Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
    Status: Inmate
    Info:
Ancient dark elf, a delf, first of their kind and their King. Their race is dying due to light and matter being poisonous to their kind. Originally they were scientists, sorcerers, etc. Now he's more military-minded, ruthless, and cold. Pride to boot. Kind of a superiority complex. lmao

Originally his grief drove him but the anger and pain has long since changed him into something more vile; as one to make grave "sacrifices" that only continue to dig his own grave and drive them to extinction.

In his perspective, he doesn't believe he needs to be redeemed. He did what he had to do and is seeking to listen, watch, and make opportunities for himself. He's a quiet sort. Like sciences and deep discussions particularly in matters of ethics and personal morals.

    Offering:
shit oddly similar to Silco, can I just say "samsies @ Silco" lmfao.

    More seriously, with varying success:
    - talking about science, philosophy, magic, etc
    - manipulation, coercion, extortion
    - violence :) though he needs a reason
    - someone that's fucking difficult
    - but actually can be decent to talk to
    - Someone extremely adept with intricate and advanced technology and technological magic but have no idea what the fuck a toaster is

    Plotting:
Am new, and am a slow rper usually so I'm just getting my feet wet.

    - Currently in talks with Viktor (temp warden) about said debate on morals.
    - Having one heck of a reunion with Loki and his Bucky Entourage.
    - Snooping the medbay with Alice while people are away, maybe looking for things.

He's been in the observatory often, researching places the ship has been, planets and galaxies nearby, and so forth. Reads a lot, too. Likes to know things but also has a superiority complex so doesn't talk to many people yet LOL

Goals: Of which will have varying success, some very much likely to not be successful.

    - Get the dirt on people ;)
    - Unintentionally build CR that he gives a shit about
    - Try and find a system or planet that is more suitable for his kind
    - Also maybe try to find the aether or something similar, weapons please
    - Maybe be forced to see that he doesn't act on behalf of his people anymore he acts on behalf of his wrath and it's what killed them all, lmao, so fucking rip at him.
    - Continue looking like a BBQ'd leather daddy, er wait.

    Etc:
He's a serious and kind of intense guy and sometimes has thoughts that can be pretty assholish or assuming but we chill over here. Feel free to hit me up about anything, anytime. It's all good.

    Waver

    [personal profile] professor_charisma 2022-02-26 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Waver Velvet, the former and current Lord El-Melloi II
Canon: Fate/Zero & The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II
    Status: Warden

Info: The biggest nerd from any universe ever. Waver is a walking encyclopedia of all things magic and the occult, but he's not very good at actually casting magic. Spends most of his time face down in his comm reading books all day while blowing his stipend on the warden longue liquor cabinet. Halfway decent at maintaining a professional, academic and aloof facade, while being a hot-headed softie on the inside. Currently the temp warden to Volk.

Plotting: I talked about it on Plurk, but Waver is interested in setting up a nice little alchemical lab here so they can do tests on stuff they have, and things they pick up in the future. His goal is to help make healing potions/etc. so we don't have to solely rely on the autodoc and technology. He'll eventually speak with the Navarch to see how he can best acquire his (handwavey) list of equipment and materials. Unfortunately leaving this sort of stuff out in the open is dangerous, so he'll be setting it up in his quarters. But any warden and maaaybe some inmates who want to check it out and get a magic lesson or five are welcome.

Goals: Waver has like -9000 self esteem points on a good day, and his failure out at port really stung. He's going to be throwing himself hard into this alchemy project to prove he can be useful to the wardens as a whole. I would love for him to have to talk to Travis, Rhys, or Jack sometime soon, since he's busy pouting about that whole ordeal and he needs to be confronted with the fact that it's not going away.

I would love him to get more CR with non-magicky types, warden or inmate. A recent conversation with Volk drove home the fact that because he's been so long 100% steeped in mage culture for well over a decade, that he has no idea how to interact with people outside of it anymore.

But I want all CR! Cuz he absolutely wants to talk to magicky types from all these other worlds, too, he's so interested and enthusiastic about it. People more people drag him out of his quarters for some uuh fresh air equivalent. Anyone who can manage to drag any backstory out of him would be a dream, but it's gonna be tough. Malekith got a little bit out of him due to the simple slip of the tongue, whoops.

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? He claims that he wants to return the universe to darkness which he does but that claim comes with 'for us, for my people, for our survival'. Which was once true. What is true now is his hatred, his pain--he wants people to suffer as he has suffered, truly understand what it feels like to lose everything you love, to not even be able to breathe without agony; knowing every breath brings you closer to death. It's his primary motivation and, in his life, he has failed. Which resulted in his death and now being here.

Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others? He does refuse to... accept his death, in a way. He's so blinded by these goals though that he would do the same thing over, and over, and over. He's actively attempting to do something similar as he had done while alive again. Hence: accursed. It's become very personal, but there's a crumb of true care for his people that does remain. It's just so twisted and mostly reserved for those already dead.

What's a kick in the teeth your character needs? Needs to face a lot of things. Needs to come to terms with his own emotions and how they're not righteous even if valid and how the actions he's taken on behalf of them were not beneficial to anyone, himself included. Needs to unpack the dynamics of there not being a "right" side to this age-long war he's been fighting. Not his. Not theirs. Needs to deal with his fucking family being killed in the aftermath of it all, god damn. HE is the reason they're an endangered species, gotta kick him in the head with that somehow. Needs to do a lot of accountability and healing. Whoa boy. Frankly, I think this can be pulled from him through diligent conversation but I am not fully sure how to achieve this yet SEND HELP.

Outside of the things he asked for in return for being a warden - Iskandar, his debts repaid, freedom from the El-Melloi family - Waver wants to be powerful and respected on his own terms. He wants to work for this place in mage society and get by on his talents and skills, not on his family lineage or wealth (neither of which he has). Stumbling into the situation he's in now as the Lord of the El-Melloi family doesn't count for him. He didn't earn it, and the title is more of a burden to him than a help. He's still looked down on by the other noble mages, who watch him teach his classes and solve their mysteries with mocking amusement. And yet, while he knows he can't ever really climb that ladder, while he'll never get anywhere in mage society, he still works as ten times as hard as any other mage. There's always a chance, and he has to continue living those ideals ingrained in him by Iskandar. Otherwise, if he didn't, he'd have nothing.

    Canon: Lucifer
    Status: Warden
    Info: - Literally the Devil
    - But actually like. A good guy.
    - Yes it is totally fine for your character to find this absolutely bugfuck wild.
    - Never lies, which again is fine if your character thinks this is bullshit :)
    - Can be incredibly silly/flippant and incredibly earnest, depending on the context. Can also veer between the two very quickly when necessary.
    - Dispensing Good Advice is a Thing That He Does, often inadvertently.
    - Generally an over-sharer. And an extrovert. He WANTS to talk to you, and WANTS to tell you about himself!
    - Can be the muscle, if you need muscle, since he's super strong and basically invulnerable to harm.

Plotting: Mostly right now Lucifer is
    - Focusing on Theo, his temp inmate for the month. If you want to talk to him about Theo PLEASE DO
    - Also has appointed himself the unofficial warden social planner, he wants to do a warden movie night, he will be pestering people about this
    - Happy to have someone poke into the few things he's actually reluctant to talk about, specifically wrt his partner and daughter and why he's not, y'know, with them and instead on the interdimensional space prison.

Goals: Honestly my goal is for Lucifer generally to be a very active warden, and hopefully eventually maybe even a go-to for other wardens to talk to about their issues. COME DO THERAPY WITH HIM. Obviously this will require some long-term trust-building CR stuff to get to that point with a number of characters so that's what I want. ALL THE CR. And just generally being involved, since Lucifer is very outgoing and genuinely wants to help. Obviously characters wanting him to fuck off is also very valid you don't all have to be his friends I GUESS.

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be?

Lucifer's greatest desire is pretty small beans, in the grand scheme of things. It's very personal to him, and while he downplays it, it is actually something he wants a great deal - to see his partner and daughter again, without breaking his promise to stay away from them. He knows, logically (because time travel lol) that they will be fine, that they are fine, but he misses them a lot, and leaving them on Earth was by far the hardest thing he's ever done. They are the two people he loves most in the universe and it's going to be a very long time before he sees them again. This is his one chance to get even a brief glimpse of them before that time. Getting him to admit to this will actually be quite difficult for any character, despite the fact that Lucifer is otherwise very open about himself and his past, etc.

So while there wouldn't necessarily be consequences if he somehow fails in his warden contract, he'd be devastated to not get his windfall.

    Theo

    [personal profile] sanctus_dei 2022-02-26 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
    Character: Theo Crawford
    Canon: Original
    Status: Inmate

Info: It's ya boy, Theo, that kid everyone hates and who hates you back. Theo used to be a very powerful mage who specialized in necromancy and the occasional gravity spells. He's so good at magic that he got dangerously obsessed, became a paranoid megalomaniacal narcissist over it, and went apeshit to show up his former mentor and the magic guilds. Ended up killing nearly a thousand people in San Francisco with necromantic spells which is like 10x more than he intended. He's very guilty about it but will never admit it in a million years. Maybe. He'll gladly brag about it to inmates like he's proud, but will shy away from telling wardens anything, due to his guilt. And because he just really hates authority figures. Without his powers, he feels totally defenseless and has been lashing out at everyone and everything, treating nearly every interaction he's had like it's an aggressive challenge. He's desperately trying to come off as tough and mean so he'll be left alone, while also wanting nothing more than to be paid attention to. I'm sorry about him.

Plotting: This kid is unravelling faster than expected and it's mostly Lucifer's fault. Okay, mostly it's his own fault, but Lucifer is his temp warden and is making him talk to him every day and he hates it so. very. much. He went through substance withdrawal, he's still recovering from the damage spellcasting did to his mind and body, he's absolutely wracked with guilt and PTSD, and he's terrified of everyone here because he has no way to defend himself and he's mistrustful by nature to begin with. He's out to prove himself as a Big Tough Man while being a 100-pound malnourished teenager with nothing else going for him now. Please just pay attention to him and tell him what a big cool man he knows he is already!! JEEZ.

Goals: I'd love for him to do some real, actual damage to the ship or something, but I don't want to make the other PC's lives too miserable, so I'd love to discuss ideas. Maybe something that would be inconvenient for awhile but can be fixed by PCs/replaced eventually by the Admiralty? Idk.

I'd love for him to have ONE conversation where he doesn't push back or get aggressive, idk if this is actually possible but it'd be a nice change of pace. Sometimes he even tires me out lol.

He might be getting put to work in the greenhouse, which is a great idea. He needs some purpose, something to keep him occupied, and he's good with plants thanks to his mentor, who was (ostensibly) an alchemist.

    CR Question

    [personal profile] sanctus_dei 2022-02-26 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
What consequences does your character need to grow?

We're getting there, faster than I expected. Lucifer simply confronted Theo with his continuous series of contradicting lies, and Theo couldn't stand to be shown his own weakness. If he admits that he feels guilty for all of those deaths, then he feels like those deaths were for nothing. It's what he needs to come to terms with, but is deeply in denial about it. Those people died, he is responsible for it, but they died to prove a point to his mentor. That's a reason. A good reason to him, not to anyone else, but he doesn't care about that. Not yet.

When he was brought here, Theo panicked, wanting to live. But he really doesn't. He's very bitter about being alive again, feeling he doesn't deserve it or is worth it, and has admitted a few times out loud that he wishes he was still dead. It's one thing he says that isn't a lie. To him, it's much easier just being dead and no longer having to deal with the consequences of his actions, rather than be reminded of them at every second of every day. That inflated ego has been shattered, and he feels worthless now. He needs to get over this feeling, and maybe he can start to feel like he's worthy of life by finding new purposes that aren't just being the biggest, baddest mage on Earth.

    Theon Greyjoy | Inmate

    [personal profile] reek 2022-02-26 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
    Player: Hannah
Contact: [plurk.com profile] muttonchops, PM this journal
Notes: MST, kind of sporadic tagger but I’ve been trying to respond to all threads at least once a day or every other day. I have a dog and plurk about him incessantly.

    Character: Theon Greyjoy
Canon: A Song of Ice and Fire
    Status: Inmate
    Info:
Theon is proud, stubborn, and very, very sensitive. He's very likely to take anything you say personally and will hold onto it forever. He’s internalizes everything and is a very heavily guarded person. He has this creepy habit of smiling and laughing at things that shouldn’t be smiled or laughed at. He’s also a horse girl.

He comes from a family of pirate vikings (plus one uncle who’s a pirate viking wizard) and was taken from home as a political hostage as a child. Everyone loves some childhood trauma, right?

    HE CAN OFFER YOU…
    -General negative or positive CR
-Someone you can tease!!! Look at him, he’s begging for it.
    -Someone easily manipulated
-An old timey person who has trouble with electronics and is naive to the modern world
-Someone skilled in riding horses, archery, hawking, swordsmanship, sailing...

Plotting: No real plans right now, tbh! I’m new to the game and just feeling things out. Theon still thinks his crimes were justified, though, and can think of a few other people should be here in his place. Like wow why is he here when there was an arsonist who flays people was right there.
    Goals:
Again, I’m new so my current goals are general “be active, get all the CR, do all the things”. The Big Goal is to have Theon open up a bit more, but that isn’t going to change overnight. He’s obviously a magnet for negative CR, but getting a little positive CR would be great if anyone could look past his smug exterior? Dude has only really ever had one friend.

    Etc: This is basically him:

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be?

What Theon desires most is acceptance and love. It’s an intense longing that has fueled almost every single one of his actions in the books. He wants to be accepted by the Starks, his family, the ironborn, the North. He says things he thinks might impress, and does things that he thinks might help others look favorably upon him, even if they harm others. And here’s the thing—he has failed at this, and we’ve seen the outcome. It’s Theon, desperate and alone, forgetting everything else and trying to control people with fear instead.

What consequences does your character need to grow?

He needs to let down his walls a bit. He’s been bottling everything up inside for half his life and he needs to realize that a little vulnerability is okay. It doesn’t make you weak.

i ALSO like them and would like to expand on them!!

i think cracking into nerd stuff will come more quickly than murder, but i'm definitely down for slotting that in down the line. feels pretty IC for rhys at some point to be like "i'm not like these MURDERERS" and alice to get to the point where she's like "well i am"

LMAOOO Yeah I was just putting that out there, Rhys isn't going to talk about those murders anytime soon if he can help it but he'd definitely have a "not like other girls inmates" moment sooner than later.

Nerd stuff is super easy though, especially if she shows her cards first. Do you like DnD Alice? Computers???

i'm circling back to the destructo thread that i definitely totally lost the notifications for until like yesterday, and i want you to know that i demand aki freaking out a lil bit post explosion to be canon regardless of how far we get with actual threading. so that i can use it in future threads. danke

alice may, eventually, bring up the prosthetic thing. particularly if she learns more about rhys' / viktor's world having a bunch of advanced ones. but she's unlikely to push it, since it's not her arm.
