FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME
FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME
Welcome to the Return Journey's first plotting meme!
In plotting memes, we share what we're doing next, our dream storylines, and any gentle workshopping on tricky subjects or character choices — essentially a CR Meme with an optional smidge of How's My Driving.
These memes are not mandatory, but they are highly encouraged because it's a place to plan CR and communicate your character arc in a way that can get others involved with yours. They're meant to be low pressure and high yield. When in doubt, ask questions!
Every month, we offer a few different prompts or character-building questions. These are entirely optional; you can absolutely just fill in the base form if you want.
Monthly Prompts
This month we're asking questions themed around consequences.
Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others?
What consequences does your character need to grow? Consequences are crucial to telling a character arc for both inmates and wardens. Without them, there can't be stakes or tension, and without stakes or tension, there's no impetus to grow. What's a kick in the teeth your character needs? What are they robbing themselves of when they try to avoid these consequences?
How do consequences affect your character externally and internally? How do they react? What kinds of consequences are intolerable or tolerable, necessary or unnecessary?

Character: Silco
Canon: Arcane
Status: Inmate
Info:
Silco is observant, often prickly, and focused on the long-term. He's currently disinterested in redemption, and unimpressed by people who want to do better. He's certain that he's done his best.
At home, Silco is a gangster with revolutionary ambitions, and 1.5 that people he cares about to an excessive degree. Everyone else? Expendable. He's here to work on trust, empathy, and whatever a "healthy boundary" is.
He can offer -

I've been running behind this month, and I'm mostly focused on catching up on that. Please let me know if you'd like a starter, and always feel free to swing into my inbox for a thread / scene. I'll hit yours too!!
He does have a few small balls in the air -
Goals:
I'd like to (read - need to actually plan / thread) have him work on establishing himself as a source for materials or information in game, whether or not he actually succeeds at that. Buddy should be trying to make himself useful to others and I've been slacking.
I've been focusing on deepening CR before he makes an escape attempt, but that's likely in the next few months as well, if that's something you'd like to get in on.
HE IS HERE to better himself though, and I'd like that to happen incidentally along the way!
To start that -

Character: Alice Quinn
Canon: The Magicians (Book version)

Info:
Alice is a huge nerd who's prone to nerves, likes hands-on work, and cares about her friends just a bit too much. She's very committed to her windfall, but not at all sure about the Admiralty's methods.
At home, she's a professional wizard and aimless twenty-something, who pulled the spell equivalent of a grenade on herself to save her friends. She's here to make sure that it actually worked - and to practice using her convictions, instead of just excusing them.
She can offer -

Goals:
I'm working on deepening Alice's CR at the moment, particularly with inmates; who she feels a deal of sympathy for. So far it seems like her best friends could've ended up here!! Clearly that doesn't bear closer examination!!
If there's a plot you'd like to do down the line that involves Warden negligence or bad decisions, she's a definite option.

Character: Rhys "Danger" Strongfork
Canon: Borderlands
Status: Inmate
Info: Rhys fuckin sucks. He's still deep in exuding that slimy, super corporate attitude and will either be schmoozy with you or an absolute dick depending on his first impressions of your character. Easy to get along with when you're on his good side, a pain in the ass when you're not. Rhys is always looking for advantages, and will stick closer to characters who have something worthwhile to offer him (even if that's just his
desperateneed for company.)Plotting: Since arriving Rhys has gotten his nose broken, gotten into multiple public fights (that didn't result in more broken face bones, but only because of warden interference ((thanks claire)) ) and committed grand theft auto with some warden assault on the side which he was put into solitary for for a week.
He currently only has ONE SHIRT which he is pretty annoyed about, and has lost various privileges.
Goals: I'd like to work on deeper CR for Rhys, especially because at some point I think it would be interesting to learn about his "past self" in the setting (aka: TLV's OG Rhys) who some of the characters knew. He's going to have an existential crisis about this and I'd like him to have someone to confide in when he does.
Other than that: He hasn't faced a lot of (any, really) the shit that went down shortly before he came here. Handsome Jack, the space station crash that was 90% his fault, the former friends who died or he lost contact with in the fallout of that, and how Fiona wasn't wrong to leave him in the dust. I want these things to come to light slowly and organically but I'd like him to have to start dealing with some of it beyond the front he puts up currently.
And longterm: I play Rhys at his absolute worst, but that doesn't cancel out the route where he's at his canonical best (he can still be a cutthroat asshole, but he's kinder, more empathetic and wants to work alongside others.) Those traits are still in him, somewhere, but his crueler and more callus traits have become the ones that are dominant. The plan is to eck those traits out until they're his prominent ones.
Etc: Monthly prompts!
Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others?
What Rhys desires most in life is success, and the way he's gone about conceptualizing this is in the form of being a Business Man (he has dialog where he talks about how when he was a kid he made tiny business cards to hand out, cringe.) Failing this isn't an option for him, because it will mean all he's been through (and all those around him that have been effected by his decisions) wasn't worth the cost, and I think he'd genuinely have a breakdown if it came to this.
It would be cool if he could learn that success is beyond his current idea of it, though.
I think he needs to get to a place with people where he's dropped most of his pretenses, become vulnerable, and then screwed it up for himself. I think he needs to feel loss and not turn to spite as the recourse in order to move forward because while he's survived by using this method, he's ultimately ended up alone.
"It's lonely at the top" is how he's rationalized it, but he actually really needs and desires connection with others (beyond them being like, his little corporate posse where betrayal is just a matter of time) he's just shit at it because friends aren't his end game.
Rhys is the kind of guy to go into a situation saying "I'm not here to make friends" and then be hurt when he has no friends.
no subject
this guy is goo in the middle he doesn't want power he wants approval and acceptance
WHICH MIGHT BE THEIR BIG FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE
but: im sorry i didnt push on the space station crash, volk was like "why hurt the dude's feelings?? i gain more here long-term from showing that i give a shit about not sticking my fingers in his obvious trauma"
WE SHOULD DEVISE A WAY FOR IT TO COME UP AGAIN

nix | aki hayakawa (warden)
Contact: leitmotif @ plurk
Notes: erratic tagger, sometimes i boomerang and other times i perish. i suck at plurk bc i fell out of the habit and never got back in the groove, but it's good for pinging me. contents are mostly rp chatter, birds, my hot fandom of the moment, and occasional rl bs.
Character: aki hayakawa
Canon: chainsaw man
Status: warden
Info: resident devil hunter and spoiler warning; blunt, overly serious, tired, and possessing zero self-preservation. he's spent the last 4 years slowly killing himself with devil contracts and has kind of forgotten how to use his face. from au 1997 japan so who knows if he'll know what you're talking about. extremely good at seeming like a reasonable, practical guy on the surface when he is...not. it's a little too easy to guilt him into stupid shenanigans, even if he (thinks he) doesn't like you.
Plotting: just been tagging out, tho the last event fell during a bad time for me so lol. i usually just roll with shit as it happens, so most plans are long term goals (see below). may eventually do smth with him looking into a prosthetic (he's kind of written off the idea for now for reasons). also future devil, bc while aki has done some eerily prescient shit around people, he doesn't...explain it. in any case, i'm always happy w inbox shenanigans or writing starters.
Goals: mostly getting him more involved and deepening current/building new cr. on the more spoilery end, actually dealing with his death and the circumstances surrounding it, bc he's been skating by on the fact he can't clearly remember getting brainwashed, killed, possessed by a devil, and then killed again by
his little brotherdenji. he'll admit he's dead, but talking about it in detail will probably make him panic. also maybe one day he will confess the bullshit with his extremely truncated lifespan is a problem, but that's kind of a pipe dream. as it is, he's accepted that he's dead and has no intention of trying to change that for fucked up reasons.side note that he gets attached to people very easily and expresses it in small gestures (or...absurdly selfless ones), but it might take a while to notice since his surface persona is pretty cold. and the easiest ways to crack that are by pissing him off or dying lol.
Etc: aki only has the brain cell bc denji and power flat out refuse to use it
prompts;
aki obv wants his windfall, bc maybe he can at least save power (his lil sister figure). his motivations are ultimately personal, though the fallout has a lot of potential for the greater good and aki does care about that; it may even be good for some of his bullshit wrt helplessness and how to cope with that helplessness, because it's genuinely ruined his fucking life. naturally, that's all off the table if he fails, but bc it's personal, he's much more dogged about pursuing his goals and it's much harder to make him change course.
— What consequences does your character need to grow?
lol, he's kind of already going through this by not being actualfax dead. aki does not know what to do with himself without a goal that consumes his entire life; he's pretty much decided he'd rather do something that kills him instead of feeling terrifyingly adrift, bc he doesn't know how else to deal with survivor's guilt. something something the difference between living and surviving.
— How do consequences affect your character externally and internally?
he's willing to accept pretty much any personal consequences, including death (it's part of how he's remained in his line of work for so long, when most people don't make it through their first year), but he cannot deal with other people dying. he's had 2 buddies go through the wringer trying to save him; he's still not over the first one and the second one only doesn't weigh on him overmuch bc he doesn't remember what happened. the big problem is these consequences make aki more determined to figure out ways to protect the people he cares about, with absolutely no consideration for the price he personally pays, bc sometimes you have to make sacrifices and the cheapest thing he has of value is himself. which, obviously, this is...really bad.

Waver
Canon: Fate/Zero & The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II
Status: Warden
Info: The biggest nerd from any universe ever. Waver is a walking encyclopedia of all things magic and the occult, but he's not very good at actually casting magic. Spends most of his time face down in his comm reading books all day while blowing his stipend on the warden longue liquor cabinet. Halfway decent at maintaining a professional, academic and aloof facade, while being a hot-headed softie on the inside. Currently the temp warden to Volk.
Plotting: I talked about it on Plurk, but Waver is interested in setting up a nice little alchemical lab here so they can do tests on stuff they have, and things they pick up in the future. His goal is to help make healing potions/etc. so we don't have to solely rely on the autodoc and technology. He'll eventually speak with the Navarch to see how he can best acquire his (handwavey) list of equipment and materials. Unfortunately leaving this sort of stuff out in the open is dangerous, so he'll be setting it up in his quarters. But any warden and maaaybe some inmates who want to check it out and get a magic lesson or five are welcome.
Goals: Waver has like -9000 self esteem points on a good day, and his failure out at port really stung. He's going to be throwing himself hard into this alchemy project to prove he can be useful to the wardens as a whole. I would love for him to have to talk to Travis, Rhys, or Jack sometime soon, since he's busy pouting about that whole ordeal and he needs to be confronted with the fact that it's not going away.
I would love him to get more CR with non-magicky types, warden or inmate. A recent conversation with Volk drove home the fact that because he's been so long 100% steeped in mage culture for well over a decade, that he has no idea how to interact with people outside of it anymore.
But I want all CR! Cuz he absolutely wants to talk to magicky types from all these other worlds, too, he's so interested and enthusiastic about it. People more people drag him out of his quarters for some uuh fresh air equivalent. Anyone who can manage to drag any backstory out of him would be a dream, but it's gonna be tough. Malekith got a little bit out of him due to the simple slip of the tongue, whoops.

Theo
Canon: Original
Status: Inmate
Info: It's ya boy, Theo, that kid everyone hates and who hates you back. Theo used to be a very powerful mage who specialized in necromancy and the occasional gravity spells. He's so good at magic that he got dangerously obsessed, became a paranoid megalomaniacal narcissist over it, and went apeshit to show up his former mentor and the magic guilds. Ended up killing nearly a thousand people in San Francisco with necromantic spells which is like 10x more than he intended. He's very guilty about it but will never admit it in a million years. Maybe. He'll gladly brag about it to inmates like he's proud, but will shy away from telling wardens anything, due to his guilt. And because he just really hates authority figures. Without his powers, he feels totally defenseless and has been lashing out at everyone and everything, treating nearly every interaction he's had like it's an aggressive challenge. He's desperately trying to come off as tough and mean so he'll be left alone, while also wanting nothing more than to be paid attention to. I'm sorry about him.
Plotting: This kid is unravelling faster than expected and it's mostly Lucifer's fault. Okay, mostly it's his own fault, but Lucifer is his temp warden and is making him talk to him every day and he hates it so. very. much. He went through substance withdrawal, he's still recovering from the damage spellcasting did to his mind and body, he's absolutely wracked with guilt and PTSD, and he's terrified of everyone here because he has no way to defend himself and he's mistrustful by nature to begin with. He's out to prove himself as a Big Tough Man while being a 100-pound malnourished teenager with nothing else going for him now. Please just pay attention to him and tell him what a big cool man he knows he is already!! JEEZ.
Goals: I'd love for him to do some real, actual damage to the ship or something, but I don't want to make the other PC's lives too miserable, so I'd love to discuss ideas. Maybe something that would be inconvenient for awhile but can be fixed by PCs/replaced eventually by the Admiralty? Idk.
I'd love for him to have ONE conversation where he doesn't push back or get aggressive, idk if this is actually possible but it'd be a nice change of pace. Sometimes he even tires me out lol.
He might be getting put to work in the greenhouse, which is a great idea. He needs some purpose, something to keep him occupied, and he's good with plants thanks to his mentor, who was (ostensibly) an alchemist.

Info:
Ancient dark elf, a delf, first of their kind and their King. Their race is dying due to light and matter being poisonous to their kind. Originally they were scientists, sorcerers, etc. Now he's more military-minded, ruthless, and cold. Pride to boot. Kind of a superiority complex. lmao
Originally his grief drove him but the anger and pain has long since changed him into something more vile; as one to make grave "sacrifices" that only continue to dig his own grave and drive them to extinction.
In his perspective, he doesn't believe he needs to be redeemed. He did what he had to do and is seeking to listen, watch, and make opportunities for himself. He's a quiet sort. Like sciences and deep discussions particularly in matters of ethics and personal morals.
Offering:
shit oddly similar to Silco, can I just say "samsies @ Silco" lmfao.
More seriously, with varying success:
- talking about science, philosophy, magic, etc
- manipulation, coercion, extortion
- violence :) though he needs a reason
- someone that's fucking difficult
- but actually can be decent to talk to
- Someone extremely adept with intricate and advanced technology and technological magic but have no idea what the fuck a toaster is
Plotting:
Am new, and am a slow rper usually so I'm just getting my feet wet.
- Currently in talks with Viktor (temp warden) about said debate on morals.
- Having one heck of a reunion with Loki and his Bucky Entourage.
- Snooping the medbay with Alice while people are away, maybe looking for things.
He's been in the observatory often, researching places the ship has been, planets and galaxies nearby, and so forth. Reads a lot, too. Likes to know things but also has a superiority complex so doesn't talk to many people yet LOL
Goals: Of which will have varying success, some very much likely to not be successful.
- Get the dirt on people ;)
- Unintentionally build CR that he gives a shit about
- Try and find a system or planet that is more suitable for his kind
- Also maybe try to find the aether or something similar, weapons please
- Maybe be forced to see that he doesn't act on behalf of his people anymore he acts on behalf of his wrath and it's what killed them all, lmao, so fucking rip at him.
- Continue looking like a BBQ'd leather daddy, er wait.
Etc:
He's a serious and kind of intense guy and sometimes has thoughts that can be pretty assholish or assuming but we chill over here. Feel free to hit me up about anything, anytime. It's all good.

Character: Lucifer Morningstar
Canon: Lucifer
Status: Warden
Info: - Literally the Devil
- But actually like. A good guy.
- Yes it is totally fine for your character to find this absolutely bugfuck wild.
- Never lies, which again is fine if your character thinks this is bullshit :)
- Can be incredibly silly/flippant and incredibly earnest, depending on the context. Can also veer between the two very quickly when necessary.
- Dispensing Good Advice is a Thing That He Does, often inadvertently.
- Generally an over-sharer. And an extrovert. He WANTS to talk to you, and WANTS to tell you about himself!
- Can be the muscle, if you need muscle, since he's super strong and basically invulnerable to harm.
Plotting: Mostly right now Lucifer is
- Focusing on Theo, his temp inmate for the month. If you want to talk to him about Theo PLEASE DO
- Also has appointed himself the unofficial warden social planner, he wants to do a warden movie night, he will be pestering people about this
- Happy to have someone poke into the few things he's actually reluctant to talk about, specifically wrt his partner and daughter and why he's not, y'know, with them and instead on the interdimensional space prison.
Goals: Honestly my goal is for Lucifer generally to be a very active warden, and hopefully eventually maybe even a go-to for other wardens to talk to about their issues. COME DO THERAPY WITH HIM. Obviously this will require some long-term trust-building CR stuff to get to that point with a number of characters so that's what I want. ALL THE CR. And just generally being involved, since Lucifer is very outgoing and genuinely wants to help. Obviously characters wanting him to fuck off is also very valid you don't all have to be his friends I GUESS.
Etc:
PROMPT
Lucifer's greatest desire is pretty small beans, in the grand scheme of things. It's very personal to him, and while he downplays it, it is actually something he wants a great deal - to see his partner and daughter again, without breaking his promise to stay away from them. He knows, logically (because time travel lol) that they will be fine, that they are fine, but he misses them a lot, and leaving them on Earth was by far the hardest thing he's ever done. They are the two people he loves most in the universe and it's going to be a very long time before he sees them again. This is his one chance to get even a brief glimpse of them before that time. Getting him to admit to this will actually be quite difficult for any character, despite the fact that Lucifer is otherwise very open about himself and his past, etc.
So while there wouldn't necessarily be consequences if he somehow fails in his warden contract, he'd be devastated to not get his windfall.

Theon Greyjoy | Inmate
Contact:
Notes: MST, kind of sporadic tagger but I’ve been trying to respond to all threads at least once a day or every other day. I have a dog and plurk about him incessantly.
Character: Theon Greyjoy
Canon: A Song of Ice and Fire
Status: Inmate
Info:
Theon is proud, stubborn, and very, very sensitive. He's very likely to take anything you say personally and will hold onto it forever. He’s internalizes everything and is a very heavily guarded person. He has this creepy habit of smiling and laughing at things that shouldn’t be smiled or laughed at. He’s also a horse girl.
He comes from a family of pirate vikings (plus one uncle who’s a pirate viking wizard) and was taken from home as a political hostage as a child. Everyone loves some childhood trauma, right?
HE CAN OFFER YOU…
-General negative or positive CR
-Someone you can tease!!! Look at him, he’s begging for it.
-Someone easily manipulated
-An old timey person who has trouble with electronics and is naive to the modern world
-Someone skilled in riding horses, archery, hawking, swordsmanship, sailing...
Plotting: No real plans right now, tbh! I’m new to the game and just feeling things out. Theon still thinks his crimes were justified, though, and can think of a few other people should be here in his place. Like wow why is he here when there was an arsonist who flays people was right there.
Goals:
Again, I’m new so my current goals are general “be active, get all the CR, do all the things”. The Big Goal is to have Theon open up a bit more, but that isn’t going to change overnight. He’s obviously a magnet for negative CR, but getting a little positive CR would be great if anyone could look past his smug exterior? Dude has only really ever had one friend.
Etc: This is basically him:
prompts prompts prompts
What Theon desires most is acceptance and love. It’s an intense longing that has fueled almost every single one of his actions in the books. He wants to be accepted by the Starks, his family, the ironborn, the North. He says things he thinks might impress, and does things that he thinks might help others look favorably upon him, even if they harm others. And here’s the thing—he has failed at this, and we’ve seen the outcome. It’s Theon, desperate and alone, forgetting everything else and trying to control people with fear instead.
What consequences does your character need to grow?
He needs to let down his walls a bit. He’s been bottling everything up inside for half his life and he needs to realize that a little vulnerability is okay. It doesn’t make you weak.

Character: Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp Randall Fraser
Canon: Outlander
Status: Warden
Info: Claire is a time traveler that's originally born in 1918, lived through WW2, and went on to become a surgeon in the 1960s. There was a detour in there to 200 years in the past where she got married to a hot Scottish guy and became the lady of an estate, lived the high life in Paris, and then experienced another war back in Scotland. Uhhh, and now most recently, she's hanging out around the cusp of the American Revolution and god please she's tired of war but that's not even why she's here!
She's inherently motherly because she's a mom and a grandma and likes taking care of people (good trait in a doctor), and while she can be very sweet and gentle, she can err towards tough love if she thinks it's what needed. She's easily That Warm Mom Friend trope for sure, but she's also an easy source of negative CR (WILLIAM) since she thinks she's in the right almost all the time and can either say too much or be weirdly evasive without even realizing it!! If your character is one to frequent the infirmary, she's probably around. Always down to handwave those sorts of encounters or thread out an idea! I love positive and negative CR, and the journey to get to from point A to point B.
Plotting: Claire's been trying to figure out her approach to being a warden, which is thus far amounting to be kind and listen, but wary. She is VERY aware inmates are here for a reason. So, while she might be outwardly friendly with them, she's always keeping a very careful wall up. She's been camping out in the infirmary as resident doctor despite being from the 1960s and not officially infirmary staff here. She's always interested in teaching what she knows to others, wardens or inmates alike, though for inmates it's more to keep them busy than with any actual intent of relying on them, oops.
Feel free to dip into her inbox at any time! I love that shit.
Goals: Right now, I'm on the deepening CR bus! Claire is genuinely interested in people and is happy to ask questions while tossing out only the occasional tidbit about herself unless prompted. Tell her about the cool stuff in your world :) she's feeling out who she can rely on when it comes to fellow wardens and what inmates she can see herself pairing with because she's starting to get a little antsy about her windfall.
Etc: furiously proves men wrong via medical school loans
prompts
Life or death is usually what she deals in when it comes to consequences. She's so focused on the American Revolution and her family being sucked into it (girl you knew what was going to happen when you decided to camp out in the colonies) that the fact that her obituary is something she's held in her own hands is easy to sort of disassociate from, for the most part. She's pretty ambivalent about her own death, more worried about Jamie and the family dealing with that loss, but she should probably sit and examine her feelings beyond "well, that's bad, good thing I can get out of this pickle by being a warden" or something. But that requires talking and she's not great at sharing her feelings. Gross. She knows she compartmentalizes and sees that as a good thing, which it can be, but you have to air out some stuff sometimes, Claire. Whenever she breaks or snaps it's very... explosive.

Status: Inmate
Info: Volk is intense, blunt, aggressive, and his story includes some pretty heavy explorations of both severe chronic more-or-less-incurable mental illness and its treatment. Like honestly, way more than I thought it would when I apped, because he keeps seeing both unintentional parallels in this place to inpatient facilities, having whether or not things are real challenged directly, and meeting people who want to just Do therapy on him.

This is him, not me - call his bluff if you've got a good handle on it, he's bullshitting more often than it seems like. If you don't have a handle and want an OOC assist, I absolutely love telling people where to kick him.
- Volk thinks that he is the good guy and that wardens are more or less as screwed as inmates are, except that they're working for a genuinely unethical, incompetent, and underhanded system. This isn't a surface-level thing or a bluff, and trying to change his mind without changing the system itself first is going to get him to dig his heels in harder. He's a grey-inmate, and the good parts of him are that he has a strong ethical framework with clearly defined principles that this place violates for him.
- VOLK LOVES TO ARGUE, not because he thinks it's funny but because it's tied into the above two things
- The city he used to live in can be thought of as a combination of King's Landing, the Florentine Republic, and Hollywood. Betrayals and an art renaissance, beheadings and algorithmic marketing, influencers suddenly developing intensely powerful magic one week and losing it the next, powerful dynastic families that have run the city for four centuries, coups, people-as-brands, counter-coups, twitter campaigns, conspiracies, media monopolies. He's not a high-level player in any of this, but he's mid-level meteoric and he's ambitious and he knows exactly what weight class to punch in to advance on the board.
- I mention all of this to provide a reference to both his level of paranoia, his consciousness about to managing his image, his need to viciously end social fights as fast as he can, AND to say that: He likes it there. He chose to live there. He's not the honest guy who comes in and deals with a city full of snakes, he's a snake that wants to get bigger.
- Volk is an inmate because he is bone-deep manipulative, extremely persuasive, and is willing to hurt everyone including himself to get his way because he doesn't think of it as "hurt." Circumstances currently put him in a position where "getting his way" means prison reform, which isn't a bad thing, but in his life outside of the Peregrine this has served really different goals.
Plotting: - Volk wants to meet the Navarch. He doesn't know what he's going to do once he's there, he just wants his humanity acknowledged.
- He made that big fucking list and yelled it at Satan, as is the traditional way to file a formal complaint
- AT SOME POINT THE INFIRMARY IS GOING TO RESTOCK AND CLAIRE IS GOING TO LEARN HE IS LITERALLY PSYCHOTIC AND IS ¿BARELY MANAGING IT? BECAUSE THE INMATE CAP IS HOLDING DOWN THE WORST SIDE EFFECTS
-- also getting a decent night's sleep every night and not having constant horrific deadlines and eating 3 meals a day has helped, but try telling volk that
- volk is using Lover's Kiss as makeup right now which I hope to jesus and god turns out to be an awful idea
- HE'S STILL NOT DEALING WELL WITH THE IDEA THAT WE'RE IN SPACE AND THAT YOU'RE ALL FROM OTHER WORLDS, it genuinely wasn't denial just like - think seriously about how fucking insane that would be to
a regular personan anxiety disorder person with a complex about being able to tell reality from hallucinations- going to try to get a spare communicator for Shenanigans
- is now very worried that space stations can crash thx rhys
- going to try to "turn" some wardens which sounds evil but his goal is more like a labor union where inmates and wardens can collectively strike for better conditions
Goals: - Volk is hiding like 4 major things about himself ranging from the mundane and sad to the MAGICAL AND CONFUSING and I want everybody to dig up all of them
- there are 3 more massive things he's not hiding about himself because he doesn't know them either, only i do, HA HA HA HA

JENN with TRAVIS
Contact: victoryfanfare on plurk, victoryfanfare#4736
Notes: EST! I generally tag at a decent pace, but the past few weeks have been [skull emoji] but now that some work stuff has cleared up, it should settle in a bit again. I can get into boomeranging sometimes and am most reliably available to tag in late evenings and on weekends.
Character: Travis Touchdown, the Crownless King, the No More Hero, the-- you get it.
Canon: No More Heroes
Status: Inmate
Info: Travis is a 34 year old gamer and classic anime fan who let his desire for a thrilling life get him scammed into becoming an assassin. Hundreds of bodies and a decade worth of ugly lessons about death and killing later, he is "retired", living in the woods, estranged from his wife and kids. He's trapped in a series of shitty choices, and his own unexamined desire to kill people.
Travis wants a fight. Specifically, he wants a fight where he feels like he is being challenged –– in the most ideal of circumstances, his opponent wants him dead. If the other party isn't into it, he'll walk, and if the other party doesn't seem like a worthwhile kill, Travis will let them live (possibly maimed) so they can get stronger and come back to fight him again later. He generally has a lot of respect for people who fight, as long as they have some sort of purpose and show respect in turn.
He is also pretty personable. Travis is a guy who can generally hold a conversation with anyone, regardless of how friendly or opposed they are. Often it can come across as the world's most insane compartmentalization: he WILL just chat with people as if he doesn't regularly fight others, and he's generally curious about others, though he can sometimes treat other people like cool characters in a game he's starring in and not... living, breathing people.
Plotting:
Since arriving about a month ago, Travis has:
- fought Rhys, Bucky, Lucifer (x2) and Waver
- pissed off I think half the wardens
- hijacked an ATV (largely for funsies, but also to facilitate Jack and Rhys' escape attempt)
- been handcuffed in the mess hall, handcuffed in the observatory, and spent a week in solitary
- acquired a foam cat from the commissary
I am playing it by ear right now. My only upcoming plan is to acquire one more ticket so that Travis can get a Foam Wife from the commissary and be really really weird about it. (I have two days to get this ticket lmao so if anyone wants to boomerang..... [finger guns])
Also, Travis is very gullible and generally takes whatever he is told at face value. He is an easy mark for manipulators who need/want someone to do violence for them because he is easily convinced for very little cost. If anyone wants him for that, he's around and is very open about being an assassin.
Goals: The endless and eternal goal is to gradually move this guy on his redemption path, but in the short term, I'm looking for:
- opportunities for Travis to get into physical altercations, whether that's with wardens or inmates
- some heart to hearts... his antics can be pretty ridiculous but underneath is a pretty serious guy with some big feelings. (Easier done in person, tbh, it's too easy to perform/disengage emotionally on The Internet.)
Etc: nada right now, will do consequences talk in a bit

theresa / jack mass effect
Contact: PM,
Notes: CST (UTC-6). I work 4 days a week w/ 10 hour shifts, which means my brain only works 3 days a week. On the plus side, I have zero social commitments (aw yea fuckign covid in the suburbs), so on my days off I'm usually down to boomerang.
Character: Jack
Canon: Mass Effect
Status: Inmate
Info: Jack is short-tempered and foul-mouthed and emotionally damaged. She comes from The Future™ so none of this scifi nonsense bothers her at all, which means she is able to focus purely on Escaping This Bitch. Please assist/hinder her attempts re: This Bitch.
For Inmates:
- Will encourage your bad habits
- Will betray you at any given moment
- Will fight you
For Wardens- Is aggressively unrepentant about her various crimes
- Just Needs Someone To Believe In Her
- Will fight you
Plotting: Jack was involved in hijacking an ATV on the planet and then ditched her fellow hijackers and tried to escape on her own because she's an asshole. She was given solitary confinement as a punishment, but I would like to add something constructive onto it. Maybe force her to do trust falls or sth lmaoGoals: Short term, I am looking for Jack to get her ass metaphorically kicked for being so untrusting and ready to throw people under the bus (or the ATV, as the case may be). Long term, I would like her to be assigned some important tasks that require others to rely on her so she understands the difference between being used and being useful.

It would help to have an idea of what all happened first, though, so it's relevant, which is why I started with Loki asking her about it. Punishing her in general isn't his style pff. So if you have a summary of what she did that would help me brainstorm. As it is, everything I've seen has been kind of up in the air as to what exactly happened, but I haven't been able to look at much so it's possible I just missed the full arc of the caper.

Notes: EST. I'm not able to tag during the day, and don't get home from work until 8:30ish on Monday nights. At the moment, I've been having some trouble with stress and being tired out after work thanks to it being a surprisingly draining job and I have a second job I'm supposed to keep up with as well. To make matters worse for the next week and a half or so, I fell and sprained my wrist, so tagging is just physically difficult even when I want to do it right now. :/ I'm...trying. Things are getting easier at work because we have more staff now and I'm being forced to slow down, lol, but yeah. Just. If I'm slow, that is why, not because I'm mad at anyone or losing the voice or anything. I also play games with my family online (I live across the country from them) once a week usually, and it goes late enough I don't tend to tag much those nights.
Re: what I like/talk about a lot. L-Loki. Um. I'll chat on plurk about what I'm watching and playing currently. Right now I've been working (slowly) on Hades and I just recently started Psychonauts 2. I...watch a lot of Youtube idk. I'm doing a reading challenge this year and it's going well so far so I'll probably be talking about the books I've been reading too. (Tempted to make a Murderbot journal.)
Character: Loki
Canon: MCU
Status: Warden
Info: Loki's here for your magic royal idiot bisexual needs. He's also here for folks who are interested in how being an inmate on another ship worked, or just being an inmate in general. He genuinely wants to help and is more honest and levelheaded than he used to be, but he's also not. Perfect. So he's very much up for conflict and mischief if that's something people are interested in.
Plotting: Lol specifically Loki's going to be a little distracted by Malekith's arrival for a while. He's going to speak to the Navarch (when I am able to get to that) which will likely help calm him down but he's still going to be uneasy and the tension between them will be obvious. It doesn't help that Malekith likes to taunt him and Loki's especially susceptible to that...
He's also going to start looking into ways to utilize magic to make wardening easier. In particular, can he find some way to monitor (or at least check on) inmate whereabouts without it being invasive? Temps and unpaired inmates need looking after too, honestly even more than the paired ones. People will likely see him doing obvious, intent research on this if anyone wants to get involved with that, including just suggesting things he can try to figure out. (Note that this is not how his magic is demonstrated to work in canon so it'd be up to mod discretion what we can actually do, ahahah.)
Goals:
-I'm really looking forward to finding Loki's permanent match. He is going to get so attached, sorry.
-I'd like for him to get more involved with the group at large. I wasn't as able to do that in TLV as I liked. I'm starting small with the magic thing fff.
-Fucking around harder with events. Really wanna get deep into that event shit.
-Talk to the owl talk to the owl TALK TO THE OWL
-Get him thinking about what he's actually going to do with his windfall since he's skeptical he can do all that he'd need/want to with a single one anyway. Subtopic: maybe have him be more sure what those needs/wants are, indecisive bastard that he is.
Etc: Re: consequences... Loki is honestly very affected by his relationships with people so the things that have the most impact on him are hurt related to people that matter to him. Being hurt by them, hurting them (whether he means to or not), seeing them be hurt and he can't protect them. He has entire shifts in mindset based on these things, and refocuses his efforts accordingly. If anyone wanted to influence him, that would be the way to do it!

el bucko
Contact: pm or ask for plurk
Notes: central; usually really fast boomeranger but have had a weird slump lately. trying to get back into the swing of things. my likes include video games, movies, comics, and no shortage of really obscure things. i try not to talk about mcu too much, but it's unavoidable.
Character: james buchanan "bucky" barnes, or the winter soldier
Canon: marvel cinematic universe
Status: warden
Info: he's a jaded, old soldier trying to establish a new identity, separate from his past, on the ship, something of his own that isn't controlled or affected by others that feel they know what's better for him. former brainwashed assassin that has regained his autonomy and is still trying to figure out what he wants to do with himself.
relationship-wise, he's extremely easy to befriend regardless of being an inmate or warden. he identifies and relates to people well, being highly empathic. the world he functions in is grey and has no black and white, and he understands the reasons for decisions people make even if they aren't what is considered socially correct. for him, morality is just as grey as people, so very few people are truly good or bad, with exception to his best friend steve who he sees as good despite steve's personal faults. he's also good as a mentor or teacher for combat, movie night buddy, general collaborator. he's a very bad enemy. because then he will only try harder to befriend you.
Plotting: bucky's been acclimating to space still, trying to get his bearings and at least better establishing his presence in the ship, though that's not been as good as i've wanted since i didn't get to tag as much as i wanted to. aside from trying persistently and failing to befriend silco, he's realizing having friends is better than allies in this situation and is trying to foster more of those. not active open plans yet or recent threads, but hit me up if you wanna do something! i'm really easy! c:
Goals: what i want to build in the game is essentially bucky's man on the wall arc (an mcu version), so i'm mostly trying to give him more opportunity to learn about other worlds and get more involved in the scientific research. he needs an outlet to better establish his abilities in a less violent way, since his arm is useful for more than just combat, being very controlled and precise. people that can push him to explore other subjects of study, engineering, biology, botany, etc, would be greatly appreciated. people that will actively challenge him would also be good for helping him grow and better learn how to manage expectations as a warden compared to life on earth.
Etc: i'm really sorry, but i'm going to have to drop most of my early plans from feb but i will do my best to catch up on threads that have already been started! please let me know if there's anything you'd like to discuss, handwave, or need to thread out that isn't already available.
Lin--Alex Mercer
Contact: Plurk
Notes: EST, although I have a day job that usually allows me some time for tagging (right now at least). I talk about my dog a lot, but also just generally whatever I find interesting. Lately I've been battling my own slump though, but I'm generally a big friendly puppy in human form.
Character: Alex Mercer
Canon: Prototype
Status: Inmate
Info: Alex is going to be a hard egg to crack in some ways, as the hardest part for him is going to be opening up and actually trusting someone. He's very open about what he did, and how he was involved. LESS open by far about WHAT he is, WHO he is, and who he wants to be. He's still figuring that part out. He can be a bit of a dick, but he can also have a rough 'nice side' and help people on occasion. He tends to operate on enlightened-self-interest.
Plotting: I admit, I'm really looking forward to when he gets permanently paired. Mostly because his 'redemption' is going to involve things like "who he wants to be now" and "what is his place in the world". He's already remorseful about what he did, even if he also isn't sure how it all could've played out in any other way. But he wants to go back and clean up the mess he made, not trusting others to do it right.
So for him, he needs...to learn to trust. To have actual proper FRIENDS, and find a support network when he's used to having to BE on his own and handle things alone. Not least of which because his permanent warden and/or friends will have to prod him hard and work to get at two of his big secrets he's protective of. (That he is both a sentient virus so not actually human, and that he has, effectively, consumed and assimilated several people who are now part of him.)
Goals: Alex's goal is to get graduated, and go back--although I'm also open to him graduating and becoming a warden himself. (This is my preferred option. :) )
--Make an actual FRIEND
--Learn to trust others
It's in his journal name in many ways, he is and has become something less than human, but also something more. I want to explore what that all MEANS, with both the dark sides (within reason--too much negativity in my life, means I don't want it in my RP fun times), but also all the good ways too.
He's honestly pretty accepting about everyone else's weirdness, and not likely to judge too much unless you're legitimately a sadistic asshole who only wants to hurt others.
Etc: I like CR, and I like talking? Please feel free to poke me.
Prompts
Alex isn't quite sure what he wants right now, beyond the tangible goals of going back and finishing cleaning up the Infection, as well as making sure his little sister is safe (and hopefully wake her up from her coma). To that end, he's focused mostly on how can he graduate/get this 'redemption' thing done. The hard part is there's no guidelines to what 'redemption' is, and it's causing him to be frustrated and struggle.
His desires are personal to him, aside from that he could have a tangible effect if he goes back. He's not above thinking about the greater good, but it often comes from a viewpoint of "Hey, if I do good for everybody, that includes ME too". If he fails...well, he could very easily become a monster. He's already been a monster in many ways, but now he has the potential to be a worse one. The tricky part is keeping him from going down that road.
What consequences does your character need to grow? Alex needs someone to poke and prod him into being more open. He needs someone to figure out just what/who he is, so they can help him figure out WHO/WHAT he wants to be. Positive consequence can include friendship and loyalty, especially if given for no gain. Negative consequences need to be disappointment in him, making him raise himself up to a bar and surpass it. Physical punishment and consequences won't work on him other than to breed negative CR. Most of his arc and journey are going to be very internal and CR driven. He's not likely to act out the way others are.
Grace
Contact:
Notes: Central time, just got a new job so tags will be mostly after 5pm weekdays/on weekends
Character: Grace Gibson
Canon: OC
Status: Warden
Info: Grace is open and eager to help, but has no patience with people lying to themselves (or her). Unfortunately she emits a Weirdness Vibe that makes other people uncomfortable and paranoid, and that can really fuck with the amount of good she can actually do. She can turn invisible, phase through solid objects, and float, making her ideal for any sneaky-type, spying-type or reconnaissance-type needs!!
That said, she doesn’t have super-strength, magic powers, sciencey-genius-brain or even a particularly useful career skillset, so she’s feeling kind of useless at the moment, which is a delightfully exploitable vulnerability. She also seems to be the most naive/determinedly positive Warden, at this point just kind of out of a stubborn desire to prove all the naysayers wrong. She wants to help!! Let the ghost help!!
Plotting:
Grace has been attempting to focus on inmate care, with extraordinarily little success! In the meanwhile:
- She’s made some friends :) They all hate each other :(
- The following people are aware of some or all of her Special Ghostie Abilities (tm): William, Claire, Bucky, Lucifer, possibly Silco depending on how this log goes. Volk is only aware of the Angels Trying To Kill Me Back Home thing. Everybody else should be considered Mostly Unawares ic. Travis WISHES he knew and Grace is absolutely not telling him.
- Alex helped Grace swipe a sleeping bag from one of the ATV/Camping Gear sets and has said she Owes Him One (on top of him having this blackmailable info). This will absolutely come back to bite her in the ass at the most inopportune moment and I can’t wait.
- Lucifer scares the shit out of Grace and she’s been extremely scarce around the ship since the last port, when they had a bit of a confrontation, because apparently even beyond being Instinctively Afraid Of Him she also just doesn’t really gel with his personality very much (classic introvert vs. Extrovert shit, sorry ‘bout it). Her days have been mostly taken up by checking on her inmate (Silco, who doesn’t really require too much babysitting AS FAR AS SHE KNOWS) and guarding the storage area (i.e. reading and hiding). She has convinced herself this is For The Best. Someone please convince her otherwise sometime soon. thank
Goals:
Grace started out with a totally open attitude and was basically immediately dunked into the toilet of wariness and suspicion. After seeing just how fucked up some of the inmates actually are (Travis, Theo, Silco, to a lesser extent and for very different reasons Volk) she’s starting to second-guess herself and her ability to help anybody. She’s not a scientist, she doesn’t have any magic, and she doesn’t have a useful skillset. Essentially at this point about a month into her stay, she’s feeling like that one volunteer who just showed up and was issued a namebadge, and now nobody’s quite sure what to do with her. Once again, she’s on the outside looking in. Also she’s shit-scared of Lucifer (it’s not his fault he’s been very nice!! She just sucks!!!).
All this adds up to Grace basically Turtling herself away from people for the most part, which is NOT GOOD— reverting to a withdrawal from contact is gonna be a big setback for her ultimate goal path, which is “Learning to stand up for herself and be responsible for her own choices as well as other people’s lives”. I’d like to get her back on track with some more plot things, so if your character has plot ideas they need more Wardens to participate in, please let me know!! I’m up for just about everything.
Also I wish to put her in Mortal Peril. Please Menace This Ghost. Thank You In Advance.
Etc:
