FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME

Welcome to the Return Journey's first plotting meme!

In plotting memes, we share what we're doing next, our dream storylines, and any gentle workshopping on tricky subjects or character choices — essentially a CR Meme with an optional smidge of How's My Driving.

These memes are not mandatory, but they are highly encouraged because it's a place to plan CR and communicate your character arc in a way that can get others involved with yours. They're meant to be low pressure and high yield. When in doubt, ask questions!

Every month, we offer a few different prompts or character-building questions. These are entirely optional; you can absolutely just fill in the base form if you want.

Monthly Prompts

This month we're asking questions themed around consequences.

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others?

What consequences does your character need to grow? Consequences are crucial to telling a character arc for both inmates and wardens. Without them, there can't be stakes or tension, and without stakes or tension, there's no impetus to grow. What's a kick in the teeth your character needs? What are they robbing themselves of when they try to avoid these consequences?

How do consequences affect your character externally and internally? How do they react? What kinds of consequences are intolerable or tolerable, necessary or unnecessary?

Notes: MST, kind of sporadic tagger but I’ve been trying to respond to all threads at least once a day or every other day. I have a dog and plurk about him incessantly.

Character: Theon Greyjoy

Info:
Theon is proud, stubborn, and very, very sensitive. He's very likely to take anything you say personally and will hold onto it forever. He’s internalizes everything and is a very heavily guarded person. He has this creepy habit of smiling and laughing at things that shouldn’t be smiled or laughed at. He’s also a horse girl.

He comes from a family of pirate vikings (plus one uncle who’s a pirate viking wizard) and was taken from home as a political hostage as a child. Everyone loves some childhood trauma, right?

HE CAN OFFER YOU…
-General negative or positive CR
-Someone you can tease!!! Look at him, he’s begging for it.
-Someone easily manipulated
-An old timey person who has trouble with electronics and is naive to the modern world
-Someone skilled in riding horses, archery, hawking, swordsmanship, sailing...

Plotting: No real plans right now, tbh! I’m new to the game and just feeling things out. Theon still thinks his crimes were justified, though, and can think of a few other people should be here in his place. Like wow why is he here when there was an arsonist who flays people was right there.
Goals:
Again, I’m new so my current goals are general “be active, get all the CR, do all the things”. The Big Goal is to have Theon open up a bit more, but that isn’t going to change overnight. He’s obviously a magnet for negative CR, but getting a little positive CR would be great if anyone could look past his smug exterior? Dude has only really ever had one friend.

What Theon desires most is acceptance and love. It’s an intense longing that has fueled almost every single one of his actions in the books. He wants to be accepted by the Starks, his family, the ironborn, the North. He says things he thinks might impress, and does things that he thinks might help others look favorably upon him, even if they harm others. And here’s the thing—he has failed at this, and we’ve seen the outcome. It’s Theon, desperate and alone, forgetting everything else and trying to control people with fear instead.

What consequences does your character need to grow?

He needs to let down his walls a bit. He’s been bottling everything up inside for half his life and he needs to realize that a little vulnerability is okay. It doesn’t make you weak.

Really want these two to talk about the political prisoner thing. Loki knows better intellectually but I think deep down is like, maybe if I just KNEW you stole me and that you were raising me as your son as a kindness, things wouldn't have been so fucked??? Then in comes Theon and welp. Welp.

And then all the wanting acceptance stuff, etc etc... Yeah Loki gets it my dude. Let's chat. It won't be awkward at all (it will)

BUT YES. THAT SOUNDS GREAT...I never really thought about it, but they do have some super similar themes going on, don't they? I'd love for them to talk!

Yeah lol I read a fic or two where Loki was kept as a political prisoner before I suddenly went LIKE THAT GAME OF THRONES GUY O:! Theon was one of the few characters I remained curious about after I Could Not Keep Watching which was not that far in to be honest...i have trouble telling bearded white men in grey lighting apart...
