FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME

FEBRUARY PLOTTING MEME

Welcome to the Return Journey's first plotting meme!

In plotting memes, we share what we're doing next, our dream storylines, and any gentle workshopping on tricky subjects or character choices — essentially a CR Meme with an optional smidge of How's My Driving.

These memes are not mandatory, but they are highly encouraged because it's a place to plan CR and communicate your character arc in a way that can get others involved with yours. They're meant to be low pressure and high yield. When in doubt, ask questions!

Every month, we offer a few different prompts or character-building questions. These are entirely optional; you can absolutely just fill in the base form if you want.

Monthly Prompts

This month we're asking questions themed around consequences.

Think about the thing that your character desires most — if they failed to fulfill that desire, what would the consequence be? Does it change how they pursue their desire? Is it entirely personal, or beyond them, impacting others?

What consequences does your character need to grow? Consequences are crucial to telling a character arc for both inmates and wardens. Without them, there can't be stakes or tension, and without stakes or tension, there's no impetus to grow. What's a kick in the teeth your character needs? What are they robbing themselves of when they try to avoid these consequences?

How do consequences affect your character externally and internally? How do they react? What kinds of consequences are intolerable or tolerable, necessary or unnecessary?

JENN with TRAVIS

Player: Jenn
Contact: victoryfanfare on plurk, victoryfanfare#4736
Notes: EST! I generally tag at a decent pace, but the past few weeks have been [skull emoji] but now that some work stuff has cleared up, it should settle in a bit again. I can get into boomeranging sometimes and am most reliably available to tag in late evenings and on weekends.

Character: Travis Touchdown, the Crownless King, the No More Hero, the-- you get it.
Canon: No More Heroes
Status: Inmate
Info: Travis is a 34 year old gamer and classic anime fan who let his desire for a thrilling life get him scammed into becoming an assassin. Hundreds of bodies and a decade worth of ugly lessons about death and killing later, he is "retired", living in the woods, estranged from his wife and kids. He's trapped in a series of shitty choices, and his own unexamined desire to kill people.

Travis wants a fight. Specifically, he wants a fight where he feels like he is being challenged –– in the most ideal of circumstances, his opponent wants him dead. If the other party isn't into it, he'll walk, and if the other party doesn't seem like a worthwhile kill, Travis will let them live (possibly maimed) so they can get stronger and come back to fight him again later. He generally has a lot of respect for people who fight, as long as they have some sort of purpose and show respect in turn.

He is also pretty personable. Travis is a guy who can generally hold a conversation with anyone, regardless of how friendly or opposed they are. Often it can come across as the world's most insane compartmentalization: he WILL just chat with people as if he doesn't regularly fight others, and he's generally curious about others, though he can sometimes treat other people like cool characters in a game he's starring in and not... living, breathing people.

Plotting:
Since arriving about a month ago, Travis has:
- fought Rhys, Bucky, Lucifer (x2) and Waver
- pissed off I think half the wardens
- hijacked an ATV (largely for funsies, but also to facilitate Jack and Rhys' escape attempt)
- been handcuffed in the mess hall, handcuffed in the observatory, and spent a week in solitary
- acquired a foam cat from the commissary

I am playing it by ear right now. My only upcoming plan is to acquire one more ticket so that Travis can get a Foam Wife from the commissary and be really really weird about it. (I have two days to get this ticket lmao so if anyone wants to boomerang..... [finger guns])

Also, Travis is very gullible and generally takes whatever he is told at face value. He is an easy mark for manipulators who need/want someone to do violence for them because he is easily convinced for very little cost. If anyone wants him for that, he's around and is very open about being an assassin.

Goals: The endless and eternal goal is to gradually move this guy on his redemption path, but in the short term, I'm looking for:
- opportunities for Travis to get into physical altercations, whether that's with wardens or inmates
- some heart to hearts... his antics can be pretty ridiculous but underneath is a pretty serious guy with some big feelings. (Easier done in person, tbh, it's too easy to perform/disengage emotionally on The Internet.)

Etc: nada right now, will do consequences talk in a bit
